As a key leader in District 8, the decisions you make in transportation policies and funding shape what daily life looks like for your constituents. I live in District 8 and, in conjunction with Transit Trekker and Nondrivers Alliance, invite you to participate in a Week Without Driving 2026 event on Thursday, October 1 as we transit trek with King County Metro and King County Parks to Dockton Forest and Maury Island Natural Area. Volunteers on the outing will produce a trip audit to be shared after the event with county agencies and leaders to share the barriers and benefits that we experience on the trip.

Week Without Driving runs from October 1 through 8 and offers a simple and powerful way to experience our community, like many of your constituents already do.

Elected officials, like yourself, say the experience changes the way they understand our community in a deeper way, and they understand the day-to-day realities of nondrivers, such as how much time it takes to get from their home to school, groceries, work — or to recreation destinations. Those firsthand insights don’t stay personal, they help shape decisions. Elected leaders carry them back into public decision-making, elevating how car-dependent systems impact their constituents, like those who have aged out driving, disabled residents, young people, and people who cannot drive due to other barriers.
